About Me
Evolving imperfection
Esther Rozendal (1983) is a self-taught artist and colourist who creates handmade prints and paintings: bold, vibrant, and with rough edges.
Her work doesn’t need to be perfect, it’s alive. Much like an interior, which she believes is never truly ‘finished’. A home is a living, growing organism that evolves alongside the people who inhabit it.
Colour is normal
During her childhood, Esther lived in the Caribbean, where colour is no exception but the norm. Bright buildings, rich flora and fauna, and the diversity of people shaped her way of seeing the world.
On the island of Curaçao, her love for vivid hues, textures, and rhythms was born. Preferences that continue to resonate throughout her work and style today.
Intuition & craftwomanship
As a headstrong maker, Esther refuses to be guided by fixed rules or dogmas. She works intuitively, with courage and a highly developed sense of colour.
Her appetite for bold expression and craftsmanship is continually nourished through travels to countries such as Morocco and India, where centuries old craft traditions remain visible and tangible.
Look in the mirror
For Esther, everything revolves around relationships and reflection. Colour never exists in isolation; colour gains meaning through dialogue.
Colour has conversations with other colours, with its surroundings, and with the person experiencing it. Just as an interior reflects who you are, colour functions as a mirror of light, life, and character.
Art to live with
Connecting with clients is an essential part of Esther’s creative process. She treasures the moment someone falls in love with a piece and decides to bring it home with them.
By provoking, challenging, and carefully guiding, she collaborates with her clients to create art that not only is an interior object, but is also felt and truly lived with.
